South Asian New York Fashion Week (SANYFW), launched during New York Fashion Week in September 2022 is an innovative initiative that will bring together South Asian designers from across the world to the global fashion stage in New York City. SANYFW has been established as a pioneer to showcase and uplift South Asian fashion inspired by traditional and modern South Asian attire and culture.

Welcome to the official application for South Asian New York Fashion Week: September 2024. To submit an official application, submit the form below and complete the payment. Applications will not be accepted without payment. The fee is nonrefundable.

The South Asian Fashion Council will be organizing an official SANYFW schedule through the SAFC Fashion Calendar. The preliminary official SANYFW schedule will be released in August 2024.

SANYFW Application FAQ

What is the application process for designers to participate in SANYFW? 

The application process typically involves submitting a detailed comprehensive application form that includes  information about your brand, collection, design philosophy, past collections, media coverage, and any notable achievements or recognitions in the fashion industry. You will also need to provide lookbooks, portfolio images, and runway videos showcasing your work. Once you submit an application and payment, the South Asian Fashion Council members and Creative Director will assess your application. You will be contacted within 14 business days if you have been selected. If you are selected, a member of the South Asian Fashion Week team will contact you to organize a meeting. 

Is the application fee refundable?

No, application fees are not refundable. 

If I apply, will I be selected?

A completed application does not guarantee confirmation of participation in SANYFW. South Asian New York Fashion Week undergoes a rigorous process to select participants. 

When is SANYFW?

September 7-12, 2024. 

Who assesses the SANYFW application?

The South Asian Fashion Council under the guidance of the SANYFW Creative Director. 

When is the timeline to apply for SANYFW?

Applications launch April 9th, 2024 and will be open until May 20th, 2024. Waitlist designer applicants will be notified by June 17th, 2024. All designers will be finalized by July 1st. 

What are the criteria for selection as a designer for SANYFW?

Selection criteria includes the creativity and originality of your designs, your brand's relevance and uniqueness in the fashion industry, your ability to deliver a cohesive collection, past experience and success in the industry, and your readiness for a professional runway showcase. You must be of South Asian descent to participate. 

Can emerging designers apply for SANYFW?

Yes, SANYFW welcomes applications from emerging designers and often provides platforms or opportunities specifically tailored for emerging talent. That being said, the South Asian Fashion Council may have additional criteria specifically tailored for emerging talent. It is essential to review the application guidelines carefully to understand any specific requirements for emerging designers. 

Is there a fee to apply or participate in SANYFW as a designer?

Yes, participation and production packages begin at $35k USD. 

What are the benefits of showcasing at SANYFW as a designer?

Showcasing at SANYFW offers significant exposure and visibility to a diverse global audience of industry professionals, media, buyers, investors, HNIs, celebrities, influencers, and fashion enthusiasts interested in South Asian fashion and culture. It provides networking opportunities, potential collaborations, media coverage, brand recognition and visibility, and access to a niche market segment and the fashion industry’s top stakeholders. 

How are designers selected for specific SANYFW shows or events?

Designers are typically selected based on the relevance of their collections to the SANYFW format, their brand's alignment with the show's objectives, the quality and creativity of their designs, their scalability quotient, their ethical manufacturing and branding practices, and their potential to contribute to the overall success of the show. 

The main rubric is the following:

  • Are you a sustainable/eco-conscious brand?

  • Are your designs unique and innovative? 

  • Does the brand have any known history of plagiarism or copyright infringements from other creatives?

  • Is the brand able to scale for buyer orders?

  • Does the brand innovatively and creatively use South Asian fabrics, artistry, and weaving/embroidery techniques?

  • Does the brand have an established DE&I segment to their business? Are they known for diversity? Are they mission driven?

Can international designers apply for SANYFW?

Yes, SANYFW is open to international designers, and many renowned designers from around the world participate in the event. International designers may have additional considerations, such as visa requirements and logistics, which they should address during the application process.

What happens after I submit my application for SANYFW?

After submitting your application, the South Asian Fashion Council, SANYFW Creative Director, and relevant stakeholders will review all applications and select designers based on the criteria mentioned earlier. If selected, you will receive further instructions, including show schedules, fittings, rehearsals, and other logistical details leading up to the event.
